IT Competence Model and Policy

Incorporating the IT Skills Matrix

This policy has been approved by the Human Resources Committee (HRC) and has been in force since 2010. It addresses a need to ensure a consistent and appropriate level of IT skills for all levels of staff in the use of business and desktop applications across the institute and an understanding of the business processes which inform the use of these systems.

Contained within the IT Competence Model an IT Skills Matrix is employed to measure required levels of skills across all levels of staff. This can be found at the link below and will act as a benchmark for all staff to achieve the appropriate levels of skill.

The IT Skills Matrix also assists the PMDS process for individuals as a measure of gaps in skills that may exist and as an outcome of PDP meetings. These gaps will be addressed with the provison of relevant IT training courses.
