Gene Carolan graduated with a BCL from Maynooth University in 2011. He subsequently obtained an LLM from Maynooth in 2012, and submitted his PhD thesis in September 2017.
In November 2016, Gene was awarded the NUI EJ Phelan Fellowship in International Law for his research on peace agreement design and the law. He has previously received a Certificate in Mediation from the European Security and Defence College, and has presented aspects of his research to EU personnel working on military and diplomatic missions tied to the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy. Gene has served as a Parliamentary Assistant to two Senators of the Irish Houses of Oireachtas, and has conducted research on children’s rights in Europe in support of the Council of Europe’s One in Five campaign.
Gene lectures in European Human Rights, Asylum & Immigration Law, and Contract Law on DIT’s law programmes.
